Brief history of diplomatic relations between Paraguay and India

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Paraguay and the Republic of India date back to September 13, 1961. The Embassy of Paraguay in India was officially opened in March 2006. In 2009, the Republic of Paraguay designated its first Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of India, a position that is currently held by H.E. Ambassador Genaro Vicente Pappalardo.

The Republic of Paraguay has three Honorary Consulates: in the city of Kolkata (Calcutta), the State of West Bengal; the city of Mumbai, State of Maharastra; and the city of Chennai, State of Tamil Nadu.


The Embassy of the Republic of Paraguay in India is also concurrent for the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. H.E. Ambassador Genaro Vicente Pappalardo, presented his Credentials to H.E. Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa, President of Sri Lanka, on February 14th, 2011.
